Excursion Programs
Get ready for a journey of exploring, discovering and learning on Country!
During our excursion you'll take part in fun activities where you can look closely, ask questions, listen to stories, investigate the environments and discover Aboriginal connections to Country. From exploring the coastline and spotting plants and animals to learning about culture and Caring for Country, there will be lots to discover along the way!
Before excursion:
Students, you MUST download the Student Kamay National Park Booklet. This can be printed or worked on online. SEE BELOW

How do Aboriginal Peoples connect with and care for Country at Kamay?
Pre - Excursion:
Before we head out to Kamay National Park, we have to complete some tasks before hand. This is because we want you all to have the best learning experience possible! With these pre - excursion activities, we are connecting your prior knowledge to new content while stimulating your curiosity and allowing you to find out what you truly want to learn!

Pre - activity 1
Before we visit Kamay, lets take a virtual tour! You will be exploring an interactive 360° Aboriginal storytelling experience.

As you explore, open you Workbook and complete the “Notice, Think, Wonder” activity on PAGE 3

Pre - activity 2
What does Country Mean?
Before we visit Kamay, lets think about what Country means to you.
Your mission: In your workbooks, write the word Country in the middle of the mind map. Then, add words, pictures or ideas around the word 'Country' in the middle of the mind map on PAGE 4
Think about:
- Water – What waterways might be part of Country?
- Plants – What plants might be important?
- Animals – Who shares Country with us?
- People – How are people connected to Country?
- Stories & knowledge – What can Country teach us?
- Caring – How can people look after Country?

Country Detective Mission
It is time to become a Country Detective!
Explore the Kamay website and look carefully for clues that will help you understand this special place. you need to collect evidence and record it in your workbook on PAGE 5.
Find at least one peice of evidence for each:
CULTURE
What can you discover about Aboriginal Peoples, culture, knowledge, stories or traditions?
COUNTRY
What parts of Country can you identify? Think about the land, water, plants, animals and places.
RESPONSIBILITY
What can you find out about how Country is cared for, protected and respected?

Don't just write a word! Try to record what you found and how you found it.
During our excursion!
These activities aim to develop our prior knowledge and work beyond the potentially abstract ideas we started to dive into during the pre activities. For this section we are still using the Student Kamay National Park Booklet but we suggest that if you have been using an online version, you print off these following activities for your convenience during the excursion!
During the Excursion - Activity 1
Look, Listen, Notice
Take a few minutes to slow down and connect with Country. Look carefully around you and notice the sights, sounds and thing you can feel.
In your workbook draw and write, on PAGE 6
I can see...
Look for plants, animals, water, rocks, people or other features.
I can hear...
Listen for birds, wind, water or other sounds.
I can feel/notice...
What do you notice about the air, weather, ground, smells or the environment around you?
Take your time. What can you discover when you stop and really pay attention to Country?
During the Excursion - Activity 2
Draw Country
Look carefully at the area around you and draw what you can see.
In the blank box on PAGE 7 in your workbook create a picture of the landscape around you. Then add labels to identify what you have drawn.
Try to include:
- Water
- Plants
- Animals
- Landforms
- People
- Built features
- Cultural places or features

Look closely! Can you show how people are connected to place in your drawing?
During the excursion - Activity 3
A postcard from Country
Imagine you are sending a postcard to someone who could not come to Kamay with you!
Draw something you noticed from your visit. then complete the postcard in your workbook on PAGE 8

Something that surprised me was...
One way people can show respect for Country is...
Remember: Draw something you observed rather than taking photos of cultural sites. Always follow your teacher’s instructions about what can and cannot be photographed.
Post Excursion
This last activity is to be completed after visiting Kamay National Park and finishing the other activities in your workbooks. We hope you had fun and have learnt something new about Country!

Your final Country Detective challenge!
Now that you’ve explored Kamay, it’s time to show what you have learned!
Our Inquiry question was: How do Aboriginal Peoples connect with and care for Country at Kamay?
You must create a “Kamay Country” poster or digital presentation to share your learning.
It must include:
Connection
How are Aboriginal Peoples connected to Kamay?
Include at least 2 pieces of evidence from your excursion.
Culture
What did you learn about Aboriginal culture and knowledge connected to Kamay?
Share something you heard, saw or learned during your visit.
Responsibility
What responsibilities do Aboriginal Peoples have to Country?
Explain one example of how Country is cared for, respected or protected.
Continuity
How do Aboriginal connections to Kamay continue today?
Think about how Aboriginal Peoples continue to connect with, care for and share knowledge about Country today.
Remember: Aboriginal cultures and connections to Country are living and continuing. They are not just part of the past.
